Agricultural Programs
The Suffolk County Agricultural Office was split and created the Cooperative Extension Service, which provides research-based information to farmers to help them maximize their production. The Long Island Agricultural Bureau also plays a promotional role in the county. Master Gardeners have dedicated more than 125,000 hours of volunteer work to Suffolk communities through gardening programs in schools, towns, churches, and county facilities.Environmental Quality Programs

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services and the Suffolk County Department of Public Works oversaw the development and prompt implementation of a long-term wetland management and vector control plan for the entire Suffolk County. After minor revisions, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) also approved Suffolk County's SWP as a nine-element (9E) watershed plan.Vanderbilt Museum Headquarters
In the late 1990s, the Vanderbilt Museum headquarters were built in Centerport to provide educational programs to west Suffolk.In response to requests from elected officials, agencies, and citizen complaints, events that occur in the marine environment are investigated and samples are collected as needed.
