    The Connetquot Public Library was founded in 1974. The library district covers an area of 21.1 square miles, including the hamlets of Ronkonkoma, Bohemia and Oakdale, Long Island, New York, and serves a population of approximately 40,000 people.

    Battle of Fort St George

    Local Revolutionary War historian and re-enactor Bob Winowitch, presents a discussion at the Connetquot Public Library on Wednesday, September 6 from 7:00-8:30PM, in full uniform, sharing his study of this little-known battle.  On November 23, 1780, Major Benjamin Tallmadge and his soldiers took back the Manor of St. George from the British, without the loss of a single man!  Learn about one of the most daring and successful raids of the war.     Meet the Authors: A Speck in the Sea

    Please join us at the Connetquot Public Library on Tuesday, September 12 from 7:00-8:30pm to meet the authors, two Oakdale natives who will share their daring true story.  In the early morning hours of July 24, 2013, fisherman John Aldridge fell overboard his lobster fishing boat, the Anna Mary, spending 12 harrowing hours in the cold Atlantic.  His partner and best friend, Anthony Sosinksi, asleep below deck, woke to the realization and a search and rescue mission began.  The book, a story of tenacity, survival and enduring friendship, began as a New York Times feature story and is now in priority development as a major motion picture from the Weinstein Company.  Books will be available for purchase.  The library is located at 760 Ocean Avenue, Bohemia.  For additional information please contact the library at 631-567-5079 or visit our website at www.connetquotlibrary.org.

    Family History Roundtable Series: DNA Testing and Genealogy

    Professional genealogist, Rick Fogarty, visits the Connetquot Public Library on Wednesday, September 13 from 7:00-8:30pm.  He will help genealogists of all skill levels evaluate the current tests on the market, assess the tests according to their needs and look at ways to maximize utilizing DNA testing tools.  If you have not taken a DNA test, this program will help shed light on the best to take.  A third generation genealogist with deep Oklahoma roots and a citizen of the Muscogee Creek Nation, Fogarty specializes in Native American tribal, adoption, and DNA/forensic genealogical research.  The library is located at 760 Ocean Avenue, Bohemia.  For additional information please contact the library at 631-567-5079 or visit our website at www.connetquotlibrary.org.              

    Medicare Basics

    Join us for an informative program at the Connetquot Public Library on Thursday, September 14 from 10:00am-12:00pm.  Our HIICAP counselors will talk about Medicare (Parts A, B and C), the Medicare prescription drug benefit (Part D), FIDA (Fully Integrated Dual Advantage), identify low-income subsidy programs, including “Extra Help” and Medicare Savings Programs, EPIC, report possible Medicare fraud and abuse, provide information on how to appeal a decision, and discover ways to fill in Medicare’s gaps.  Counselors will be available after the program to help you on an individual basis.      The Real South of France

    The Connetquot Public Library invites you on Monday, September 18 from 7:00-8:30pm to hear WSHU’s David Bouchier share selections from his book “Not Quite a Stranger.”  David and his wife Diane have lived in two different French villages in the region called Languedoc, not far from Avignon.  In this engaging, illustrated talk, David will share their experiences with village traditions and village cats, the French language and the pleasures and challenges of daily life in a different culture.     Suffrage and Courage

    2017 marks the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New York State.  The Connetquot Public Library invites you to a Suffrage Rally on Sunday, September 24 from 2:00-3:00PM at which Alva Vanderbilt Belmont is scheduled to speak.  At this one act play you will learn about the horrific ordeals women fought in order to secure a place within our country while demanding social reform and why a portion of the female population refused to acknowledge the need for voting rights.  The library is located at 760 Ocean Avenue, Bohemia.  For additional information please contact the library at 631-567-5079 or visit our website at ww.connetquotlibrary.org.

     Girl Unbroken: A Sister’s Harrowing Story of Survival from the Streets of Long Island to the Farms of Idaho.
