    Last Chance Animal Rescue

    by Pamela Fitzpatrick

I stopped by the Last Chance Animal Rescue booth after the Sayville Rotary Pet Parade on July 8 to say hello to my friends and visit some of their adoptable animals.http://www.sayville.com/banners/Yourdog_appaws.jpgTwo of my dogs are LCAR “ alumni” and it’s always great to catch up and meet some of dogs and cats looking for forever homes.

Founded in 2008, LCAR is a volunteer based non profit created to save the lives of animals.  It is not a shelter, but rather a grassroots all volunteer network that works with  other rescues and shelter partners to transfer animals into “no kill” facilities and foster homes.  Once in the LCAR adoption program, dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are available for permanent placement into pre-screened homes.

The first dog to catch my eye was Mayberry, a beautiful young hound mix with expressive eyes.   Having finished the extensive medical vetting process ( which includes vaccinations and altering) Mayberry is newly arrived and had been with her foster, Susan about a week.  Mayberry loves everyone, and is described by her foster mom as a true “ southern belle”.  This fun, happy dog is a perfect family dog!

My fellow petsitter, Kris, is fostering Finnegan, another hound mix.  Finnegan is about two years old and gets along with everyone; kids , dogs , cat , he loves them all.  Energetic and affectionate, he’s just waiting for his forever home.

I also met Randy, a 4 year old Jack Russell mix who has recently settled in with his foster, Sara.  This little guy is good with cats, and crate trained.

If you are looking for a new addition to your family, please consider adoption!  Other ways to help with this lifesaving work include fostering,  volunteering or donating.

If you would like to learn more , visit LCAR at one of their adoption events at the local Petco in Patchogue or Selden, or visit them at http://www.lcarescue.com
