“The Dinner” was directed and written by Oren Moverman.  The best thing about this film are the four lead actors, Richard Gere, Laura Linney, Rebecca Hall.

I saved the very best for last, Steve Coogan.  The four characters meet up for dinner at a posh restaurant with a “certain rating.”  The choice of restaurant is the tip of the iceberg as the evening turns into a melt down.  Lets just say there were life time “disappointments” brought to the surface.  The get-together was to try to resolve a horrific situation that involved their sons.  The director (Oren) handed over the script, saying “just go for it,” act out the written words, a free fall.  Four seasoned performers did their jobs, magnificently.  Steve Coogan (Paul) pulled no bunches.  His range of character and personality was a performance that should be given the highest accolades.  The one set back was putting the crime committed by their sons “on hold.”
A few years back I met Mr. Moveman at the BAFTA awards.  He was nominated for his direction of “The Messenger.” I was pleased with myself that I guessed from his very slight accent that he was Israeli.  Ben Foster was with him and both were sweet and charming men.
