Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino (R,C,I,Ref-Sayville voted against a package of bills presented by Assembly Democrats which is designed to reward illegal immigrants with programs payed for by hard-working taxpayers.
The measures would prohibit the disclosure of immigration status by law enforcement or other agencies to the federal government, protect illegals from being included in Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests in New York City, use taxpayer dollars to pay for legal defense and counsel for illegal immigrants and pay for their college tuition through the DREAM Act.
“I think those who are concerned about the safety of our country also want a fair path to citizenship for those who want to come here to work hard and contribute. However, what Assembly Democrats rolled out today is nothing but a politically-charged agenda which uses taxpayer dollars to disregard our immigration laws and provide free legal services and college tuition to illegal immigrants,” said Garbarino. “There are so many pressing matters that the state is facing; the kind of investment proposed by Assembly Democrats in their measures would be better spent and invested to improve the lives of New York residents now.”
