Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter recently joined the Islip Town Board in honoring the official Town Historian, George Munkenbeck, for his educational activities and his preservation work in Islip Town.
Recently Mr. Munkenbeck created a diorama of the first Brentwood High School, which opened in the late 1800’s. The structure remains standing, but is in dire need of repair. Mr. Munkenbeck has called it “the most threatened historic structure in Islip Town” and he hopes that the diorama will inspire preservation efforts.
“Promoting our shared, illustrious history can help tie our community together,” said Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “George Munkenbeck has been tireless in his efforts to preserve our historical structures for future generations, and his work continues to be a benefit to all Town residents.”
