Sayville Boy Scout Troop 184 Summer Success

    by Mark Zender

This summer, 48 Scouts and 13 adults visited Camp Yawgoog (www.yawgoog.org).  This is a record number of attendees for Troop 184.

Camp Yawgoog is a regional Boy Scout camp in Rhode Island that hosts almost 1000 Scouts per week over it’s eight week summer season.  The Scouts and Adult Leaders attend the camp for 8 days and 7 nights.  The Scouts collectively earned 225 merit badges and 23 Scouts advanced in rank.  One Scout earned eight merit badges in one week!  The Scouts participated in many activities involving inter-troop rivalry including performing a mile swim, road and canoe races, dutch oven baking, scavenger hunt and a swim carnival.  The Scouts of Sayville Troop 184 were so active and involved, Troop 184 was recognized as “Point Troop of the Week” in recognition of their participation, rank advancement, merit badge accomplishments and Scout spirit, beating out every other Troop!

If you are a young man who enjoys the outdoors or you know know someone who does, consider learning more about Scouting.
