A Grateful Nation Thanks and Honors Our Vietnam War Veterans for Their Service, Valor and Sacrifice

On Saturday August 6th, 13 members of VFW Post were among 40 Veterans of the Vietnam War presented with the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative Medal at a Ceremony at Riverhead High School Auditorium.

The Ceremony was hosted by Long Island Chapter #202 of the Air Force Association, a sponsor of DOD’s Vietnam 50th Anniversary Commemoration Program. LIAFA has been hosting these ceremonies across Long Island since the beginning of the year.

The Commemorative Medal, specially designed for the occasion by the LIAFA was presented individually, to each veteran, by BG Thomas Owens, Assistant Adjutant General of the New York Air National Guard and COL Michael Bank, Commander of 106th Rescue Wing (ANG) based in Westhampton Beach.

The ceremony was well attended by the friends and families of the veterans, including many of their children and grandchildren.  It was a wonderful opportunity to remind everyone of the service and sacrifice of the men and women who served our country so well during those divisive times.

The members of VFW Post 433 are grateful to DOD and LIAFA for this recognition.
